The Regional English Language Office (RELO) in the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, on behalf of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of English Language Programs, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, invites proposals from qualified organizations to implement English Language Teacher Training Winter 2025 Program in Egypt.
This program will provide teacher training to up to 300 Egyptian university English language teaching assistants from all over Egypt to build knowledge and skills, enhance English language proficiency, gain a more nuanced and in-depth understanding of American culture, learn the most up-to-date English language teaching methods, and foster life skills and critical thinking skills. This program includes a one-week intensive courses on practical applications and best practices of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The course should include aspects of critical thinking, classroom management, supporting learners with disabilities, and 21st century skills.
Teacher Training Program Winter 2025 project proposals must include a well-prepared, detailed plan for the following course

Duration: 30 hours
Number of Days: 5 days
Number of Hours per Day: 6 hours per day
Instruction Mode: In Person
Locations: Alexandria, Cairo, or Luxor
Participants: Up to 300
Cohort size: 20 participants maximum per cohort
Trainer Requirements:
- Have 10+ years of experience in teaching and teacher training;
- Have experience in teaching young learners and adults;
- Have experience in teacher training material development; and
- Have an MA in TESOL or a related field.
Participant Selection Criteria:
- Teaching Assistants or new English language teachers with less than 5 years of teaching experience in a governmental university or in Al-Azhar University.
- English language proficiency level of B1 – B2 on the CEFR scale.
Expected Course Dates:
The course will take place in late-January or early-February 2025 during the winter break.
Courses Goals:
The main goal of this course is to provide participants a better understanding of the practical applications and techniques of language teaching, including identifying and using appropriate language teaching techniques and strategies for various learning contexts, identifying and meeting the needs of different learners; and effective classroom management strategies. The course framework and material developed for this course is expected to be based on the U.S. Department of State’s TESOL Methods Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).
