Mansoura University Advances Globally in the Dutch Leiden Research Ranking, Securing Third Place Locally

Dr. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, announced a new international scientific achievement to be added to the university's record of prestigious research rankings. This comes after its advancement in the CWTS Leiden Ranking (Traditional Edition 2025), one of the most prominent global rankings for measuring university research performance.

The ranking revealed that Mansoura University advanced to the 515th position globally in the traditional edition, climbing 21 spots from last year. It also secured the third-place ranking among the 15 Egyptian universities included in this year's classification.

The university also achieved an additional milestone in the Leiden Ranking – Open Edition 2025, which is based on the OpenAlex Database. It ranked 424th globally, an advancement of 20 positions from the previous year, reflecting its growing research stature both locally and internationally.

Dr. Cherif Khater expressed his pride in this continuous progress, emphasizing that Mansoura University is taking steady steps to solidify its position among distinguished global universities. He attributed this success to its strategy focused on research excellence, high-quality international scientific publishing, researcher support, and the promotion of interdisciplinary research collaboration.

Dr. Khater added that this progress confirms Mansoura University's prestigious research status and its leadership in supporting innovation and globally impactful scientific publishing. He noted that the university is continually working to internationalize its academic and research activities and enhance its presence in international cooperation networks with major universities and research institutions worldwide. This effort contributes to raising its global ranking and solidifies its role as a university with a "global identity and Egyptian roots," supporting the goals of sustainable development and Egypt's Vision 2030.

For his part, Dr. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, clarified that the CWTS Leiden Ranking is considered one of the most accurate and transparent classifications. He explained that it relies solely on indicators from global scientific research databases, without universities submitting their own data. This process ensures objectivity and complete dependence on the quality, scientific impact, and citation metrics of internationally published research output.

The CWTS Leiden Ranking evaluates the research performance of universities worldwide based on precise bibliometric criteria. These include the volume and quality of scientific output, the proportion of internationally collaborative research, and citation impact, making it one of the most credible and transparent academic rankings globally.
