Mansoura University launches the I Water project in cooperation with Ain Shams University and TH Köln University

Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Mansoura University launched the activities of the I Water project in cooperation with Ain Shams University, TH Köln University, and the German organization DAAD. The project aims to revolutionize Egypt's water sector in Egypt through innovative, multi-disciplinary partnerships in order to enhance national capacities in the integrated management of water resources  in Egypt
Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater  President of Mansoura Universitye emphasized that Egypt has placed utmost importance on the issue of water, whether in conserving its water resources, efficiently managing them, or defending its historical rights in the waters of the Nile, the main water source.He also stated that The water sector in Egypt faces significant challenges, including population growth and climate change. Leveraging its distinguished national expertise in water resources and irrigation, Egypt is well-equipped to efficiently tackle these challenges, transforming them into opportunities beneficial to Egyptians.

In this regard, Egypt launched in late 2020 a strategy for water resources management until 2050, involving several ministries. This strategy aligns with Egypt's Sustainable Development Strategy until 2030, aiming to position Egypt among the top 30 countries globally in economic and social indicators by 2030, in line with the Five-Year Plans financial planning approach. Building on lessons learned from the initial national water plan, this strategy prioritizes national expertise and sustainable development goals in Egypt.

 
Prof. Tarek Ghalwash Vice President of Mansoura University For Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairspointed out that Mansoura University is very interested developing scientific research through academic programs and research centers,The University's distinction and progress have been evident in most of the global university rankings. The Graduate Studies sector has been interested in linking scientific research with industry and solving societal problems in the Delta region. The I Water project is a continuation of the idea of linking scientific research to societal problems, including water problems, 
 
Prof. Ghada Farouk Vice President of Ain Shams University For Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs stated that the launch of the I Water project aims to develop the water sector through multi-disciplinary partnerships, in line with achieving the 6th Sustainable Development Goal of ensuring sustainable and equitable management of water resources.

Ms. Maren Diallo explained that the verses of the Holy Quran which opened the project's activities today affirm that water is the basis of life on planet Earth and the basis of every living being. Indeed, no development can be achieved without a sustainable water system and water management.

 

Dr. Hassan Abo El-Naga, the coordinator of the I Water project at  TH Köln University, presented the details of the project, confirming that it is a model for cooperation between Egyptian and German universities, and the importance of developing the water sector in Egypt through innovative multi-disciplinary partnerships to enhance national capabilities in integrated water resources management, with a focus on the future of water management in Egypt,. This project will also be the start of one of the interdisciplinary master's programs that bring together the different specializations concerned with water, its scarcity, and its management, as well as the use of artificial intelligence and modern technological means to solve water problems.
