Mansoura University Continues Global Progress in Spanish "Webometrics" Ranking – January 2026

Dr. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, announced that the university has achieved the 4th position locally among Egyptian universities and advanced to the 662nd rank globally in the results of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities for January 2026. This achievement represents a significant leap of 195 places globally compared to the July 2025 edition, where the university was ranked 857th. This progress confirms the university's continuous upward performance on both local and international levels.

The President of the University emphasized that this advancement reflects the success of Mansoura University in executing a clear institutional vision. This vision relies on enhancing research excellence, developing digital infrastructure, and improving the quality of academic and scientific content published on official electronic platforms. These efforts support the university's international presence and strengthen its scientific and cognitive impact.

Dr. Khater further explained that listing Mansoura University among the top 1,000 universities globally in the Webometrics ranking, along with its advanced position among Egyptian universities, reflects the effectiveness of institutional efforts dedicated to elevating the standard of educational and research services. These efforts are integrated with digital transformation policies, aligning with the state's directions and the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research.

From his perspective, Dr. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, noted that this accomplishment embodies the collective work within the university to develop a digital environment that supports scientific research and education. He highlighted the focus on improving the accessibility of scientific production and enhancing research openness and academic communication, all of which comply with the international standards adopted in global rankings.

The Webometrics Ranking is considered one of the largest and most significant international university rankings. Issued twice annually in January and July by the "Cybermetrics Lab" affiliated with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), it evaluates over 30,000 educational and research institutions worldwide. The ranking relies on indicators that measure digital presence, scientific impact, research openness, and the quality of academic content published on official websites.

It is worth noting that this progress occurs within the context of the growing performance of Egyptian universities in the January 2026 Webometrics edition. The ranking saw the inclusion of 83 Egyptian educational institutions, ten of which were placed among the top 1,000 universities globally. This reflects the development of the Egyptian higher education system, the continuous institutional support for scientific research and international publishing, and the development of information infrastructure in cooperation with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank.

Mansoura University affirms its commitment to continuing the implementation of its strategic plans to strengthen its regional and international standing. The university aims to solidify its role as a leading research university capable of global competition while contributing effectively to building a knowledge society and supporting sustainable development.
