The CERN Summer Student Programme 2026

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the CERN Summer Student Programme 2026. This program offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate and early-stage postgraduate students to gain hands-on experience in a world-leading scientific environment.

Participants will join a technical or scientific project within a research, engineering, or IT team. This practical work is supplemented by a comprehensive academic component, which includes:

  • A series of lectures delivered by leading scientists and experts covering topics in particle physics, computing, and engineering.

  • Workshops, discussions, and guided tours of CERN's advanced facilities.

  • Opportunities to collaborate with a diverse, international community of peers and professionals.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be a Bachelor's or Master's student (not a PhD candidate) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

  • You must have completed at least six semesters (three academic years) of full-time university studies by the start of the program (June 2026).

  • You must remain enrolled as a full-time student at your university during your participation in the program.

  • You must have a good knowledge of English.

  • You must not have previously worked at CERN for more than 3 months or participated in a prior CERN Summer Student Programme.

Successful candidates will receive:

  • A subsistence allowance of 93 CHF per calendar day (tax-free) to cover living expenses.

  • Travel expenses to and from Geneva, Switzerland.

  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage through CERN's scheme.

  • Assistance in finding accommodation on the CERN site or in the local area.

  • An academic transcript.

  • An academic reference letter (dated within the last 12 months).
