Mansoura University Continues its Pioneering Role in Preserving Egypt's Natural Heritage

Mansoura University has reinforced its leadership in conservation by creating a high-resolution 3D model of the #Basilosaurus fossil located at the #UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wadi Al-Hitan. Executed by the Mansoura University Vertebrate Paleontology Center (MUVP) in collaboration with the #Ministry_of_Environment, this project serves as a proactive scientific measure to protect the fossil from natural disasters and deterioration. The digital model allows for the replication and exhibition of the specimen in various scientific venues without risking damage to the original, ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗿. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗳 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 emphasized that this initiative reflects the university's commitment to its national role in safeguarding Egypt’s natural heritage. He noted that employing modern digital technologies is central to their strategy for applied research and the preservation of national identity. 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗿. 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗸 𝗚𝗵𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗵 added that this collaboration represents a paradigm shift in conservation and display methods, highlighting the capability of Mansoura’s researchers to utilize advanced digital documentation tools.
𝗗𝗿. 𝗛𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗺, 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗨𝗩𝗣, affirmed that the #3D modeling is an advanced step towards merging scientific research with technology, thereby protecting rare fossils while making them accessible for study. He extended special thanks to 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗵, 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗱𝗶 𝗔𝗹-𝗛𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘂𝗺, for his contributions to this success. Mansoura University concludes by reiterating its dedication to using cutting-edge technology to support national efforts in preserving the country’s natural history.
