Project Activities: Designing a Master’s Program in Sport Psychology for People with Disabilities

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University,
and the leadership of Prof. Dr. Tarek Mostafa Ghalwash, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies, Research, and Cultural Relations,
with the supervision and implementation of Prof. Dr. Amr Roshdy Saad, Professor of Sport Psychology at Mansoura University, Visiting Professor at Martin Luther and Regensburg Universities in Germany, and Project Supervisor,

Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg hosted the project’s activities over five consecutive days, welcomed by Prof. Dr. Oliver Stoll, Dean of the Institute of Sport Science and project partner, and in coordination with Regensburg University in Bayern, under the hospitality of Prof. Dr. Rainer Schliermann, Project Leader. The event was attended by faculty members and teaching assistants from Mansoura and Horus Universities, alongside the President of the Egyptian Syndicate of Athletes and the President of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee.

Scientific and Cultural Program

The program included scientific and cultural tours to explore the landmarks of Halle (Saale) and MLU, in addition to a series of specialized lectures, workshops, and academic seminars addressing disability and sport.

Within the scientific sessions, a lecture titled “Classifications of Disabilities in the Paralympics and Special Olympics” was delivered by Prof. Dr. Samir Qasem, Professor of Sport Science at Yarmouk University (Jordan), and one of the leading Arab experts in sport psychology and disability. He provided an in-depth perspective on internationally recognized classification systems. The discussion was enriched by Prof. Dr. Fathy Nady, President of the Egyptian Syndicate of Athletes, who emphasized the importance of the project, the value of institutional collaboration, and the Syndicate’s strong support for the Egyptian–German partnership.

Another session followed on “Inclusion of People with Disabilities in Sports”, led by Prof. Dr. Samir Qasem, and marked by rich scientific discussions and exchange of perspectives among the participants.

As part of the workshops and seminars, Prof. Dr. Samir Qasem delivered two lectures: “Introduction to Behavior Management” and “Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder”, focusing on the latest research trends and applied practices in the field. This was followed by a practical workshop titled “Proposed Guideline Model for the Regulation of a Master’s Program in Sport Psychology for People with Disabilities” conducted by Prof. Dr. Ehab El-Barawy, Professor at the Faculty of Sport Sciences, Mansoura University, during which participants were divided into working groups to begin drafting the initial framework of the program.

Closing Ceremony

The visit concluded with an official ceremony honoring the lecturers and project participants, attended by Prof. Dr. Amr Roshdy Saad, marking the beginning of new phases toward the design and implementation of the Master’s program in Sport Psychology for People with Disabilities.

Significance of the Project

This initiative represents the first of its kind in cooperation between Egyptian and German universities in this specialized field. It is conducted under the supervision and funding of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), with the aim of promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in society, strengthening research and educational capacities, and fostering academic exchange and sustainable strategic partnerships between Egypt and Germany.
