This ten-month fellowship offers up to USD 10,000 per researcher. It is open to scholars with a PhD in the social sciences, humanities, or related interdisciplinary fields. The program is designed to support innovative research addressing the challenges and possibilities of academic freedom across the Arab region.
Fellowship Focus
Cycle 2 encourages research proposals that explore:

Historical trajectories and conceptual foundations of academic freedom.
-
Contemporary constraints on teaching, research, and scholarly mobility.
-
The impact of digitization, surveillance, censorship, and commercialization on higher education.
-
Inequalities of gender, class, and institution in knowledge production.
-
Life-history approaches examining how individual scholars navigate or resist restrictions.
Collaboration is at the heart of the program. Selected fellows will participate in workshops, contribute to ACSS forums, and have opportunities for joint publications and network-building.
