The Cambridge ERA: AI Fellowship is an 8-week research program hosted in Cambridge, UK, for individuals dedicated to mitigating the risks posed by frontier AI systems. The next winter fellowship begins on February 2, 2026.

This is a talent-first program focused on developing and completing a research project on technical and/or governance measures related to AI safety.

Fellows receive comprehensive support to focus on their research:

  • Full Funding: A prorated salary equivalent to £34,125 per year.

  • Full Support: Complimentary accommodation, meals during working hours, visa support, and coverage for travel expenses.

  • Expert Mentorship: Close collaboration with a mentor on your research agenda.

  • Research & Career Support: Dedicated support for research (with many alumni publishing in top conferences like NeurIPS) and networking to help fellows transition into AI safety or policy careers.

  • Community: A dedicated desk at the Cambridge office, shared housing with other fellows, and regular social events.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are open to anyone aged 18 or older, regardless of background. The program is "talent-first" and encourages applicants from a wide range of subject areas.

  • Stage 2: First-Round Interview (for the top ~20% of applicants)

  • Stage 3: Second-Round Interview (a short, 15-minute interview)

  • Stage 4: Offers Sent
